# Connect VestLens to your assistant

VestLens is a read-only view of your Wealthsimple accounts, in Canadian dollars, inside Claude and ChatGPT. VestLens can read your accounts. It can't trade or move money.

MCP server: https://vestlens.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1 with PKCE; dynamic client registration supported; no client ID or secret needed).

## Before you start
- A VestLens account. Sign in at vestlens.com with Google.
- A Wealthsimple self-directed account to link.
- Claude on any plan, or ChatGPT on a plan that can add a custom MCP server (see each section below).

## 1. Link your brokerage
1. Sign in at vestlens.com and accept the terms, privacy policy and data-sharing notice.
2. Choose Connect Wealthsimple. You go to SnapTrade's page, where you sign in to Wealthsimple and approve read-only access. Your login and any MFA code go to SnapTrade, never to VestLens or to chat.
3. Back on VestLens, your accounts appear. The first sync can take a minute.

## 2. Claude

Any Claude plan can add a custom connector (the Free plan allows one). Add it on the web or desktop app; it then works in the mobile apps too. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds it once and members connect.

1. In Claude on the web or desktop app, open Customize, then Connectors.
2. Choose Add, then Add custom connector. Name it VestLens and enter https://vestlens.com/mcp as the URL.
3. Keep the sign-in options Claude suggests, then choose Add, then Connect.
4. Sign in to VestLens and approve read-only access.
5. In a chat, turn on VestLens from the + menu under Connectors, then ask a question.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds VestLens in Organization settings, then Connectors, then Add, then Custom. Members then choose Connect on it under Customize, then Connectors.

## 3. ChatGPT

ChatGPT on the web, on plans that can add a custom MCP server: Pro, Business, and Enterprise or Edu. On Business and Enterprise, a workspace admin adds it.

1. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, choose +, then Add custom MCP server.
2. Name it VestLens, enter https://vestlens.com/mcp as the URL, and choose OAuth.
3. Confirm, then create it as a plugin and install it.
4. Sign in to VestLens and approve read-only access.
5. In a chat, type @ and choose VestLens, then ask a question.

ChatGPT shows VestLens as a custom server until it is listed in ChatGPT's plugin directory. Adding it works on the web only.

## 4. Codex

For developers using the Codex CLI, IDE extension or desktop app. Answers are text only, without the interactive views.

1. Add VestLens to ~/.codex/config.toml:
   [mcp_servers.vestlens]
   url = "https://vestlens.com/mcp"
2. Run codex mcp login vestlens --oauth-client-registration dcr and sign in to VestLens in the browser window that opens.
3. Ask Codex about your portfolio.

The sign-in page may show Codex as an unverified app, because each Codex install registers itself. It is still VestLens's own sign-in page at vestlens.com.

## Things to ask
- Overview: "Show me my portfolio."
- Performance: "How have I done against the S&P 500 since I started?"
- Report card: "Give me my investing report card."
- TFSA and FHSA room: "How much TFSA room do I have left?"
- Holdings: "What do I hold, and what's up the most?"
- Holding check: "How is XEQT doing for me?"
- Allocation: "How much of my portfolio is in US stocks?"
- Limits: "Keep any single stock under 10% of my portfolio."
- Activity: "What did I buy and sell this month?"
- Income: "How much did I earn in dividends this year?"
- News and movers: "Why did my portfolio drop today?"
- Calendar: "What earnings are coming up for my holdings?"
- Alerts: "Anything I should know about my portfolio today?"

## After updates
Fixes to the interactive views reach you without doing anything. When VestLens adds a new tool, your assistant only sees it after you start a new chat or disconnect and reconnect VestLens in its connector settings.

## Troubleshooting
- The assistant says no brokerage is linked. Sign in at vestlens.com and connect Wealthsimple first. The assistant only reads what you've linked there.
- It asks me to accept documents. Sign in at vestlens.com and accept the current terms, privacy policy and data-sharing notice, then ask again.
- I don't see the interactive views. Start a new chat. If they still don't appear, disconnect and reconnect VestLens in your assistant's connector settings.
- My numbers look out of date. Balances and holdings update once a day through SnapTrade, so they can be behind your Wealthsimple app. Today's change uses market prices, and new trades and deposits show up the next day. Each view shows when your holdings were last updated.
- I just linked and my chart is empty. VestLens reads your history from Wealthsimple right after you link. It usually takes about 10 minutes; then your chart, returns and TFSA room fill in.
- I'm asked to sign in again. For safety, sign-ins last up to 30 days. Sign in again when asked.

## Privacy
- Your assistant sees what VestLens returns to answer you: balances, holdings, activity and the figures VestLens works out. The data-sharing notice explains exactly what goes to Anthropic or OpenAI.
- Removing the connector in Claude or ChatGPT doesn't delete your VestLens data. To do that, use your Account page at vestlens.com: revoke an assistant, disconnect a brokerage, download your data, or delete everything.
