CRA's averages for every TFSA holder in Canada in 2024. Pick your age group; nothing to sign up for.
All ages: $38,566 held, $52,735 of room unused.
During 2024 they put in $8,938 over 23.8 deposits and took out $9,548 over 7.6 withdrawals.
People aged 30 to 34 averaged 7.6 withdrawals. Room from a withdrawal comes back on 1 January of the next year, not right away. Putting the money back sooner uses this year's room, and CRA charges 1% a month on any amount over.
The lenses are drawn to scale: the disc is the average account, the ring is the average room left unused. They're averages, not medians, so a few large accounts pull them up; CRA doesn't publish medians for TFSAs.
Connect Wealthsimple and VestLens works out your TFSA year move by move: each deposit, withdrawal and transfer, the room it used, and the day you went over, if you did. It starts with one thing: your room on 1 January, from CRA My Account. Use it on the dashboard or inside Claude and ChatGPT.
